What Is PRP?

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP?

This is a very commonly asked question these days.

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP is a solution of plasma, with a much higher concentration of platelets that are normally found in your blood.

The average human has about 5 liters, or 1.5 gallons of blood in your body, mostly consisted of plasma. Within that plasma you have red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets used to be known only for clotting, but now it’s been found out that platelets also have a lot of growth factors in them. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP is a solution where a physician takes your blood, spins it down, extracts the platelets, and comes up with a solution that has a higher concentration of platelets than normal plasma. This allows it to be injected into your body to promote healing.
